I was looking for Clippers stuff online and came across a game program for the “O.C. Register Classic,” an exhibition game they played at the Arrowhead Pond in October 1993.
I’d heard before that the Clippers almost moved to Anaheim once upon a time, and I decided to do some digging. The story of how close they got is pretty crazy, and a year later, after talking to former Clippers president Andy Roeser, current Anaheim Ducks CEO Tim Ryan, and a bunch of other people who were involved I got the whole thing. Or as close as I could.
It’s finally published today at Defector, the great subscription-based sports blog. You can read it if you click this link: https://defector.com/25-years-ago-the-clippers-came-closer-to-moving-to-anaheim-than-anyone-knew/
Happy Happy Opening Day! (And take the over on the Clippers’ win total.)
